Things are looking up at Green Ridge R8!

Lady Tigers Volleyball has had quite the week of competition!
Their journey started last Saturday when they traveled to Hickman High School in Columbia and competed in pool play. Lady Tigers were matched up with Class 3 and Class 4 school and finished the day 1-7 in pool play, splitting sets with Fatima.
They returned to the court Monday at home, losing to district foe Appleton City in 3 sets. Freshman Alayna Brosch led with 7 aces and 7 kills. Senior Mallory Reed scrambled for 11 digs, and Senior Sydney Gordon finished with 11 assists.
Tuesday night, the Lady Tigers lost to district foe Chilhowee in 3 sets in their first match of the Tri. Junior Emery Cannon controlled the floor leading with 3 aces, 13 kills, 1 block, and 19 digs. Reed dished out 20 assists for the match.
Lady Tigers then went on to beat Sacred Heart in their first Kaysinger match of the season. A trio of hitters led by Brosch with 11 kills, along with Cannon and Gordon each with 10 kills kept the Lady Gremlins off balance. Seniors Reed and Abby Warner served for 5 and 4 aces respectively. Gordon added 20 assists for the night and Brosch led the defense with 20 digs in the 4-set Kaysinger win!
That brings us to Thursday's night Kaysinger match with the Northwest Lady Mustangs and what a match it was! Lady Tigers lost the first set 20-25, but then turned on the Tiger Turbo to take the next three sets 25-23, 25-20, 25-17. From Miss Hilt:
"In Anatomy, students worked in groups to construct a 3-D model of an organ of their choice. They then had to present their model to the class and explain the parts of the organ and the functions it has in the body. One group constructed a stomach model and one group constructed a brain! They turned out great!"

From Miss Hilt:
"To prepare for the hot air balloon, physical science learned about how hot air balloons float and why hot air rises. After learning about the processes, we made our own small-scale hot air balloon!"

This summer Melville Wood Works helped GR VIII update the playground with a new GA GA BALL pit. The PTO was gracious enough to purchase the hardware and Melville Woodworks put it together. This is one way GR VIII and its community work together for our kids! Thank you to GR VIII PTO and Matt Melville for their time and energy on this project. I do believe our kids love it!
