Green Ridge Lady Tigers pounced into action during the 2023 season opener against Sweet Springs getting the 4-set victory:  25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 25-14.  Taking charge at the net, senior Nevaeh Washington swung for 15 kills to keep the Greyhounds off balance.  Sophomore Emery Cannon added 6 kills and junior Sydney Gordon finished with 5 kills.  New-comers in the varsity line-up pitched in as well!  Juniors Jellisa Atwood (3 kills) and Abby Warner (1 kill) along with our lone freshman Aliya Edington(2 kills) found ways to put the ball away.   Defensively, Washington led the way in the back-court as well scrambling for 17 digs. Cannon and Gordon each finished with 13 digs.  Senior libero Zakiyah Morse had 10 digs, juniors Mallory Reed and Warner added to the passing game with 8 digs and 7 digs respectively.   Lady Tigers service game helped control the momentum of the sets with Cannon refining her serve method to finish with 5 aces.  Gordon peppered 23 serves total on the night without any errors and finished with 3 aces.  Morse and Reed each chipped in 2 aces.  Senior Alexas Stevens added in well-placed short serves to add to the confusion on the Greyhound side of the net.   While Gordon wasn’t busy hitting, serving and passing, she found ways to run the offense as well finishing with 19 assists!  To balance our 6-2 offense, Reed stepped in using a variety of hitters and connected 5 times for her assists.   A great start to the 2023 season!  Lady Tigers travel to Knob Noster Thursday to take on the Lady Panthers.
