Kevin Sherry, author and illustrator, from Boston, Massachusetts, visited Green Ridge RVIII on Tuesday, April 5. He is known for his books, I’m the Biggest Thing in the Ocean, Yeti Files, Remy Sneakers, and Squidding Around. His high energy presentation not only covered the writing/illustrating process, but also life lessons like “believe in yourself”, “practice what you love” and “it’s okay to be weird/creative”. He entertained students with guitar playing, character hats, and a Remy Sneakers marionette. The students from Kindergarten through sixth grade enjoyed hearing how a boy who loved comic books, grew to love reading by being introduced to Matilda by Roald Dahl. His love for Matilda and other Roald Dahl books gave Mr. Sherry the push to explore a career in illustrations and writing. He is now a full-time author and illustrator. He never gave up on his dream and encouraged our GR8 students to do the same.
